EU Foreign and Security Policy, a view from the inside

A Jean Monnet Talk given by Chris Kendall of the European External Action Service

Chris Kendall will discuss with students the current and recent challenges in the foreign and security policies of the European Union. Chris joined the European Commission in 1995, from the European Fast Stream of the UK Civil Service having studied Classics at Oxford University in the late 80s. Chris’ EU career began in the Directorate-General for Industry (now DG GROW) where he initially worked on trade negotiations and environmental legislation impacting the automotive industry. Since 2001 his career has been focused on foreign policy, including a diplomatic posting in the EU’s delegation to Canada and a secondment to the UK Foreign Office. At various points, Chris has been the official in Brussels responsible for the EU’s relations with the US, Canada, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and ASEAN. He has also worked for the EU’s Political and Security Committee and held the pen for the first revision of the EU’s Security Strategy.

Chris Kendall’s talk will be given under the Chatham House Rule.
