This AHRC Leadership Fellowship, held by J. P. E. Harper-Scott in 2016–18, investigated how Britten’s operas not only reveal the ideological commitments of his day, but also proffer a diagnosis of certain unresolved problems in our own time. Outputs include the monograph Ideology in Britten’s Operas (Cambridge University Press, 2018).
