The Society for Music Analysis’s annual Theory and Analysis Graduate Students (TAGS) Conference will be hosted at the Department of Music, Royal Holloway University of London, in spring 2025.

Chaired by our own Dr Daniel Elphick and co-organised with an esteemed panel inclusing Prof. Stephen Downes, the event provides a supportive and friendly environment in which postgraduates (and undergraduates) can gain experience in presenting their work and meet fellow researchers. The conference offers opportunities for career development and networking in a relaxed atmosphere (including an evening music theory ‘pub quiz’ social), as well as options to meet with and receive feedback from SMA Trustees and Ex-Trustees. Participants who do not wish to give a paper are also very welcome to attend.
The conference are thrilled to announce that the conference will feature two keynotes: one by Dr Nicole Grimes (Trinity College Dublin & former Royal Holloway faculty member), and another by Dr Oliver Chandler (University of Oxford & Royal Holloway alum). Each of them will also deliver a workshop including skills for early-career researchers considering an academic career.
